Ashland Hiking Home

Eleven of us entered the watershed via the Toothpick trail and enjoyed a nice break with snacks at Lamb Saddle. Then on up Caterpiller, intending to hike the Gyre Loop. Joe convinced us to head up the trail to the summit where we enjoyed lunch with lovely views to Mt. Ashland on one side and Grizzly Peak on the other, with a distant peek toward Mt. McLoughlin.

We continued down the other side to pick up the trail back past the Gyre/Gimble and Lizard back down Caterpillar, Lambs Saddle and Toothpick, having completed close to 5 miles and about 600’ elevation gain. We relished the opportunity to spend Black Friday on the trails rather than in the shops. Then most were headed off to enjoy Ashland’s winter holiday ‘kick off’ with a parade and tree lighting.
